۞ سَيَقُولُ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَا وَلَّـٰهُمْ عَن قِبْلَتِهِمُ ٱلَّتِى كَانُواْ عَلَيْهَاۚ قُل لِّلَّهِ ٱلْمَشْرِقُ وَٱلْمَغْرِبُۚ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٲطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ 142
وَكَذَٲلِكَ جَعَلْنَـٰكُمْ أُمَّةً وَسَطًا لِّتَكُونُواْ شُهَدَآءَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَيَكُونَ ٱلرَّسُولُ عَلَيْكُمْ شَهِيدًاۗ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا ٱلْقِبْلَةَ ٱلَّتِى كُنتَ عَلَيْهَآ إِلَّا لِنَعْلَمَ مَن يَتَّبِعُ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِمَّن يَنقَلِبُ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِۚ وَإِن كَانَتْ لَكَبِيرَةً إِلَّا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ هَدَى ٱللَّهُۗ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَـٰنَكُمْۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِٱلنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ 143
قَدْ نَرَىٰ تَقَلُّبَ وَجْهِكَ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِۖ فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضَـٰهَاۚ فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِۚ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنتُمْ فَوَلُّواْ وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُۥۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ لَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَـٰفِلٍ عَمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ 144
وَلَئِنْ أَتَيْتَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِكُلِّ ءَايَةٍ مَّا تَبِعُواْ قِبْلَتَكَۚ وَمَآ أَنتَ بِتَابِعٍ قِبْلَتَهُمْۚ وَمَا بَعْضُهُم بِتَابِعٍ قِبْلَةَ بَعْضٍۚ وَلَئِنِ ٱتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَآءَهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلْعِلْمِۙ إِنَّكَ إِذًا لَّمِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ 145
۞ سَيَقُولُsayaqūluWill sayٱلسُّفَهَآءُl-sufahāuthe foolish onesمِنَminafromٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe peopleمَاmāWhatوَلَّىٰهُمْwallāhum(has) turned themعَنʿanfromقِبْلَتِهِمُqib'latihimutheir direction of prayerٱلَّتِىallatīwhichكَانُوا۟kānūthey were used toعَلَيْهَا ۚʿalayhā[on it]قُلqulSayلِّلَّهِlillahiFor Allahٱلْمَشْرِقُl-mashriqu(is) the eastوَٱلْمَغْرِبُ ۚwal-maghribuand the westيَهْدِىyahdīHe guidesمَنmanwhomيَشَآءُyashāuHe willsإِلَىٰilātoصِرَٰطٍۢṣirāṭina pathمُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīminstraight
2:142
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusجَعَلْنَـٰكُمْjaʿalnākumWe made youأُمَّةًۭummatana communityوَسَطًۭاwasaṭan(of the) middle wayلِّتَكُونُوا۟litakūnūso that you will beشُهَدَآءَshuhadāawitnessesعَلَىʿalāoverٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe mankindوَيَكُونَwayakūnaand will beٱلرَّسُولُl-rasūluthe Messengerعَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumon youشَهِيدًۭا ۗshahīdana witnessوَمَاwamāAnd notجَعَلْنَاjaʿalnāWe madeٱلْقِبْلَةَl-qib'latathe direction of prayerٱلَّتِىallatīwhichكُنتَkuntayou were used toعَلَيْهَآʿalayhā[on it]إِلَّاillāexceptلِنَعْلَمَlinaʿlamathat We make evidentمَنman(he) whoيَتَّبِعُyattabiʿufollowsٱلرَّسُولَl-rasūlathe Messengerمِمَّنmimmanfrom (he) whoيَنقَلِبُyanqalibuturns backعَلَىٰʿalāonعَقِبَيْهِ ۚʿaqibayhihis heelsوَإِنwa-inAnd indeedكَانَتْkānatit wasلَكَبِيرَةًlakabīratancertainly a great (test)إِلَّاillāexceptعَلَىʿalāforٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whomهَدَىhadāguidedٱللَّهُ ۗl-lahu(by) AllahوَمَاwamāAnd notكَانَkānawillٱللَّهُl-lahuAllahلِيُضِيعَliyuḍīʿalet go wasteإِيمَـٰنَكُمْ ۚīmānakumyour faithإِنَّinnaIndeedٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahبِٱلنَّاسِbil-nāsi(is) to [the] mankindلَرَءُوفٌۭlaraūfunFull of KindnessرَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful
2:143
قَدْqadIndeedنَرَىٰnarāWe seeتَقَلُّبَtaqalluba(the) turningوَجْهِكَwajhika(of) your faceفِىfītowardsٱلسَّمَآءِ ۖl-samāithe heavenفَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَfalanuwalliyannakaSo We will surely turn youقِبْلَةًۭqib'latan(to the) direction of prayerتَرْضَىٰهَا ۚtarḍāhāyou will be pleased withفَوَلِّfawalliSo turnوَجْهَكَwajhakayour faceشَطْرَshaṭratowards the directionٱلْمَسْجِدِl-masjidi(of) Al-Masjidٱلْحَرَامِ ۚl-ḥarāmiAl-Haraamوَحَيْثُwaḥaythuand whereverمَاmāthatكُنتُمْkuntumyou areفَوَلُّوا۟fawallū[so] turnوُجُوهَكُمْwujūhakumyour facesشَطْرَهُۥ ۗshaṭrahu(in) its directionوَإِنَّwa-innaAnd indeedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoأُوتُوا۟ūtūwere givenٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Bookلَيَعْلَمُونَlayaʿlamūnasurely knowأَنَّهُannahuthat itٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truthمِنminfromرَّبِّهِمْ ۗrabbihimtheir LordوَمَاwamāAnd notٱللَّهُl-lahu(is) Allahبِغَـٰفِلٍbighāfilinunawareعَمَّاʿammāof whatيَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnathey do
2:144
وَلَئِنْwala-inAnd even ifأَتَيْتَataytayou comeٱلَّذِينَalladhīna(to) those whoأُوتُوا۟ūtūwere givenٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Bookبِكُلِّbikulliwith allءَايَةٍۢāyatin(the) signsمَّاmānotتَبِعُوا۟tabiʿūthey would followقِبْلَتَكَ ۚqib'latakayour direction of prayerوَمَآwamāand notأَنتَanta(will) you (be)بِتَابِعٍۢbitābiʿina followerقِبْلَتَهُمْ ۚqib'latahum(of) their direction of prayerوَمَاwamāAnd notبَعْضُهُمbaʿḍuhumsome of themبِتَابِعٍۢbitābiʿin(are) followersقِبْلَةَqib'lata(of the) direction of prayerبَعْضٍۢ ۚbaʿḍin(of each) otherوَلَئِنِwala-iniAnd ifٱتَّبَعْتَittabaʿtayou followedأَهْوَآءَهُمahwāahumtheir desiresمِّنۢminfromبَعْدِbaʿdiafterمَاmā[what]جَآءَكَjāakacame to youمِنَminaofٱلْعِلْمِ ۙl-ʿil'mithe knowledgeإِنَّكَinnakaindeed, youإِذًۭاidhan(would) thenلَّمِنَlamina(be) surely amongٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَl-ẓālimīnathe wrongdoers
