۞ وَإِذْ نَتَقْنَا ٱلْجَبَلَ فَوْقَهُمْ كَأَنَّهُۥ ظُلَّةٌ وَظَنُّوٓاْ أَنَّهُۥ وَاقِعُۢ بِهِمْ خُذُواْ مَآ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكُم بِقُوَّةٍ وَٱذْكُرُواْ مَا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ 171
وَإِذْ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ مِن ظُهُورِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَأَشْهَدَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْۖ قَالُواْ بَلَىٰۛ شَهِدْنَآۛ أَن تَقُولُواْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ إِنَّا كُنَّا عَنْ هَـٰذَا غَـٰفِلِينَ 172
أَوْ تَقُولُوٓاْ إِنَّمَآ أَشْرَكَ ءَابَآؤُنَا مِن قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا ذُرِّيَّةً مِّنۢ بَعْدِهِمْۖ أَفَتُهْلِكُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ 173
وَكَذَٲلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلْأَيَـٰتِ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ 174
وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ ءَايَـٰتِنَا فَٱنسَلَخَ مِنْهَا فَأَتْبَعَهُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ 175
وَلَوْ شِئْنَا لَرَفَعْنَـٰهُ بِهَا وَلَـٰكِنَّهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَٮٰهُۚ فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ ٱلْكَلْبِ إِن تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْهِ يَلْهَثْ أَوْ تَتْرُكْهُ يَلْهَثۚ ذَّٲلِكَ مَثَلُ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔـايَـٰتِنَاۚ فَٱقْصُصِ ٱلْقَصَصَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ 176
سَآءَ مَثَلاً ٱلْقَوْمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔـايَـٰتِنَا وَأَنفُسَهُمْ كَانُواْ يَظْلِمُونَ 177
مَن يَهْدِ ٱللَّهُ فَهُوَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِىۖ وَمَن يُضْلِلْ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ 178
۞ وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenنَتَقْنَاnataqnāWe raisedٱلْجَبَلَl-jabalathe mountainفَوْقَهُمْfawqahumabove themكَأَنَّهُۥka-annahuas if it wasظُلَّةٌۭẓullatuna canopyوَظَنُّوٓا۟waẓannūand they thoughtأَنَّهُۥannahuthat itوَاقِعٌۢwāqiʿun(would) fallبِهِمْbihimupon themخُذُوا۟khudhū(We said), "TakeمَآmāwhatءَاتَيْنَـٰكُمātaynākumWe have given youبِقُوَّةٍۢbiquwwatinwith strengthوَٱذْكُرُوا۟wa-udh'kurūand rememberمَاmāwhatفِيهِfīhi(is) in itلَعَلَّكُمْlaʿallakumso that you mayتَتَّقُونَtattaqūnafear Allah
7:171
وَإِذْwa-idhAnd whenأَخَذَakhadha(was) takenرَبُّكَrabbuka(by) your Lordمِنۢminfromبَنِىٓbanī(the) Childrenءَادَمَādama(of) Adam مِنminfromظُهُورِهِمْẓuhūrihimtheir loins ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْdhurriyyatahumtheir descendantsوَأَشْهَدَهُمْwa-ashhadahumand made them testifyعَلَىٰٓʿalāoverأَنفُسِهِمْanfusihimthemselvesأَلَسْتُalastuAm I notبِرَبِّكُمْ ۖbirabbikumyour Lordقَالُوا۟qālūThey saidبَلَىٰ ۛbalāYesشَهِدْنَآ ۛshahid'nāwe have testifiedأَنanLestتَقُولُوا۟taqūlūyou sayيَوْمَyawma(on the) Dayٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِl-qiyāmati(of) the ResurrectionإِنَّاinnāIndeedكُنَّاkunnāwe wereعَنْʿanaboutهَـٰذَاhādhāthisغَـٰفِلِينَghāfilīnaunaware
7:172
أَوْawOrتَقُولُوٓا۟taqūlūyou sayإِنَّمَآinnamāOnlyأَشْرَكَashrakapartners (were) associated (with Allah)ءَابَآؤُنَاābāunā(by) our forefathersمِنminfromقَبْلُqablubefore (us)وَكُنَّاwakunnāand we areذُرِّيَّةًۭdhurriyyatandescendantsمِّنۢminfromبَعْدِهِمْ ۖbaʿdihimafter themأَفَتُهْلِكُنَاafatuh'likunāSo will You destroy usبِمَاbimāfor whatفَعَلَfaʿaladidٱلْمُبْطِلُونَl-mub'ṭilūnathe falsifiers
7:173
وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thusنُفَصِّلُnufaṣṣiluWe explainٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِl-āyātithe Versesوَلَعَلَّهُمْwalaʿallahumso that they mayيَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnareturn
7:174
وَٱتْلُwa-ut'luAnd reciteعَلَيْهِمْʿalayhimto themنَبَأَnaba-a(the) storyٱلَّذِىٓalladhī(of the) one whomءَاتَيْنَـٰهُātaynāhuWe gave [him]ءَايَـٰتِنَاāyātināOur Versesفَٱنسَلَخَfa-insalakhabut he detachedمِنْهَاmin'hā[from] themفَأَتْبَعَهُfa-atbaʿahuso followed himٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُl-shayṭānuthe Shaitaanفَكَانَfakānaand he becameمِنَminaofٱلْغَاوِينَl-ghāwīnathose gone astray
7:175
وَلَوْwalawAnd ifشِئْنَاshi'nāWe willedلَرَفَعْنَـٰهُlarafaʿnāhusurely, We (could) have raised himبِهَاbihāwith theseوَلَـٰكِنَّهُۥٓwalākinnahu[and] but heأَخْلَدَakhladaadheredإِلَىilātoٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَٱتَّبَعَwa-ittabaʿaand followedهَوَىٰهُ ۚhawāhuhis (vain) desiresفَمَثَلُهُۥfamathaluhuSo his exampleكَمَثَلِkamathali(is) like (the) exampleٱلْكَلْبِl-kalbi(of) the dogإِنinifتَحْمِلْtaḥmilyou attackعَلَيْهِʿalayhi[on] himيَلْهَثْyalhathhe lolls out his tongueأَوْaworتَتْرُكْهُtatruk'huif you leave himيَلْهَث ۚyalhathhe lolls out his tongueذَّٰلِكَdhālikaThatمَثَلُmathalu(is the) exampleٱلْقَوْمِl-qawmi(of) the peopleٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawhoكَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūdeniedبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا ۚbiāyātinā[in] Our Signsفَٱقْصُصِfa-uq'ṣuṣiSo relateٱلْقَصَصَl-qaṣaṣathe storyلَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they mayيَتَفَكَّرُونَyatafakkarūnareflect
7:176
سَآءَsāaEvilمَثَلًاmathalan(as) an exampleٱلْقَوْمُl-qawmu(are) the peopleٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoكَذَّبُوا۟kadhabūdeniedبِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināOur Signsوَأَنفُسَهُمْwa-anfusahumand themselvesكَانُوا۟kānūthey used toيَظْلِمُونَyaẓlimūnawrong
7:177
مَنmanWhoeverيَهْدِyahdi(is) guidedٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allahفَهُوَfahuwathen heٱلْمُهْتَدِى ۖl-muh'tadī(is) the guided oneوَمَنwamanwhile whoeverيُضْلِلْyuḍ'lilHe lets go astrayفَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikathen thoseهُمُhumu[they]ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَl-khāsirūna(are) the losers
7:178
