قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أُوتِيتُهُۥ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عِندِىٓۚ أَوَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدْ أَهْلَكَ مِن قَبْلِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ مَنْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُ قُوَّةً وَأَكْثَرُ جَمْعًاۚ وَلَا يُسْــَٔلُ عَن ذُنُوبِهِمُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ 78
فَخَرَجَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فِى زِينَتِهِۦۖ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٲةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا يَـٰلَيْتَ لَنَا مِثْلَ مَآ أُوتِىَ قَـٰرُونُ إِنَّهُۥ لَذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ 79
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْعِلْمَ وَيْلَكُمْ ثَوَابُ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِّمَنْ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا وَلَا يُلَقَّـٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَ 80
فَخَسَفْنَا بِهِۦ وَبِدَارِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَمَا كَانَ لَهُۥ مِن فِئَةٍ يَنصُرُونَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَ 81
وَأَصْبَحَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَمَنَّوْاْ مَكَانَهُۥ بِٱلْأَمْسِ يَقُولُونَ وَيْكَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقْدِرُۖ لَوْلَآ أَن مَّنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا لَخَسَفَ بِنَاۖ وَيْكَأَنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ 82
تِلْكَ ٱلدَّارُ ٱلْأَخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فَسَادًاۚ وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ 83
مَن جَآءَ بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُۥ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهَاۖ وَمَن جَآءَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ فَلَا يُجْزَى ٱلَّذِينَ عَمِلُواْ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔـاتِ إِلَّا مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ 84
قَالَqālaHe saidإِنَّمَآinnamāOnlyأُوتِيتُهُۥūtītuhuI have been given itعَلَىٰʿalāon (account)عِلْمٍʿil'min(of) knowledgeعِندِىٓ ۚʿindīI haveأَوَلَمْawalamDid notيَعْلَمْyaʿlamhe knowأَنَّannathatٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahقَدْqadindeedأَهْلَكَahlakadestroyedمِنminbefore himقَبْلِهِۦqablihibefore himمِنَminaofٱلْقُرُونِl-qurūnithe generationsمَنْmanwhoهُوَhuwa[they]أَشَدُّashaddu(were) strongerمِنْهُmin'huthan himقُوَّةًۭquwwatan(in) strengthوَأَكْثَرُwa-aktharuand greaterجَمْعًۭا ۚjamʿan(in) accumulationوَلَاwalāAnd notيُسْـَٔلُyus'aluwill be questionedعَنʿanaboutذُنُوبِهِمُdhunūbihimutheir sinsٱلْمُجْرِمُونَl-muj'rimūnathe criminals
28:78
فَخَرَجَfakharajaSo he went forthعَلَىٰʿalātoقَوْمِهِۦqawmihihis peopleفِىfīinزِينَتِهِۦ ۖzīnatihihis adornmentقَالَqālaSaidٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoيُرِيدُونَyurīdūnadesireٱلْحَيَوٰةَl-ḥayatathe lifeٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā(of) the worldيَـٰلَيْتَyālaytaO! Would thatلَنَاlanāfor usمِثْلَmith'la(the) likeمَآmā(of) whatأُوتِىَūtiyahas been givenقَـٰرُونُqārūnu(to) QarunإِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, heلَذُوladhū(is the) ownerحَظٍّḥaẓẓin(of) fortuneعَظِيمٍۢʿaẓīmingreat
28:79
وَقَالَwaqālaBut saidٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoأُوتُوا۟ūtūwere givenٱلْعِلْمَl-ʿil'mathe knowledgeوَيْلَكُمْwaylakumWoe to youثَوَابُthawābu(The) rewardٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allahخَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) betterلِّمَنْlimanfor (he) whoءَامَنَāmanabelievesوَعَمِلَwaʿamilaand doesصَـٰلِحًۭاṣāliḥanrighteous (deeds)وَلَاwalāAnd notيُلَقَّىٰهَآyulaqqāhāit is grantedإِلَّاillāexceptٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَl-ṣābirūna(to) the patient ones
28:80
فَخَسَفْنَاfakhasafnāThen We caused to swallow upبِهِۦbihihimوَبِدَارِهِwabidārihiand his homeٱلْأَرْضَl-arḍathe earthفَمَاfamāThen notكَانَkānawasلَهُۥlahufor himمِنminanyفِئَةٍۢfi-atingroupيَنصُرُونَهُۥyanṣurūnahu(to) help himمِنminbesidesدُونِdūnibesidesٱللَّهِl-lahiAllahوَمَاwamāand notكَانَkānawasمِنَmina(he) ofٱلْمُنتَصِرِينَl-muntaṣirīnathose who (could) defend themselves
28:81
وَأَصْبَحَwa-aṣbaḥaAnd beganٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoتَمَنَّوْا۟tamannaw(had) wishedمَكَانَهُۥmakānahuhis positionبِٱلْأَمْسِbil-amsithe day beforeيَقُولُونَyaqūlūna(to) sayوَيْكَأَنَّwayka-annaAh! Thatٱللَّهَl-lahaAllahيَبْسُطُyabsuṭuextendsٱلرِّزْقَl-riz'qathe provisionلِمَنlimanfor whomيَشَآءُyashāuHe willsمِنْminofعِبَادِهِۦʿibādihiHis slavesوَيَقْدِرُ ۖwayaqdiruand restricts itلَوْلَآlawlāIf notأَنanthatمَّنَّmannaAllah had favoredٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah had favoredعَلَيْنَاʿalaynā[to] usلَخَسَفَlakhasafaHe would have caused it to swallow usبِنَا ۖbināHe would have caused it to swallow usوَيْكَأَنَّهُۥwayka-annahuAh! Thatلَاlānotيُفْلِحُyuf'liḥuwill succeedٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
28:82
تِلْكَtil'kaThatٱلدَّارُl-dāruthe Homeٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُl-ākhiratu(of) the HereafterنَجْعَلُهَاnajʿaluhāWe assign itلِلَّذِينَlilladhīnato those whoلَاlā(do) notيُرِيدُونَyurīdūnadesireعُلُوًّۭاʿuluwwanexaltednessفِىfīinٱلْأَرْضِl-arḍithe earthوَلَاwalāand notفَسَادًۭا ۚfasādancorruptionوَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُwal-ʿāqibatuAnd the good endلِلْمُتَّقِينَlil'muttaqīna(is) for the righteous
28:83
مَنmanWhoeverجَآءَjāacomesبِٱلْحَسَنَةِbil-ḥasanatiwith a good (deed)فَلَهُۥfalahuthen for himخَيْرٌۭkhayrun(will be) betterمِّنْهَا ۖmin'hāthan itوَمَنwamanand whoeverجَآءَjāacomesبِٱلسَّيِّئَةِbil-sayi-atiwith an evil (deed)فَلَاfalāthen notيُجْزَىyuj'zāwill be recompensedٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose whoعَمِلُوا۟ʿamilūdoٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِl-sayiātithe evil (deeds)إِلَّاillāexceptمَاmāwhatكَانُوا۟kānūthey used (to)يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
28:84
