علي بن أبي بكر بن علي الهروي، أبو الحسن: رحالة، مؤرخ. أصله من هراة،ومولده بالموصل. طاف البلاد، وتوفي بحلب. وكان له فيها رباط. قال المنذري: كان يكتب عل الحيطان، وقلّما يخلو موضع مشهور من مدينة أو غيرها إلا وفيه خطه، حتى ذكر بعض رؤسا الغزاة البحرية أنهم دخلوا في البحر الملح إلى موضع وجدوا في بره حائطا وعليه خطه.
من كتبه «الإشارات إلى معرفة الزيارات - ط» و «الخطب الهروية - خ» مواعظ، و «والتذكرة الهروية في الحيل الحربية - ط» وكتاب «رحلته - خ» تمت كتابته سنة 602 هـ
